Storefront Glass Measurement Checklist (Avoid Costly Reorders)
If you’re trying to speed up storefront replacement, good measurements help. Bad measurements create reorders and downtime. This checklist covers what to capture, and when to stop and let a pro measure.
Before you measure: make it safe
If glass is still falling or the opening is exposed, secure first with board up. Measurement shouldn’t be done in a hazard zone.
What to record (minimum)
- Opening type: door lite, sidelite, or fixed storefront panel
- Width/height: measure multiple points (top/middle/bottom)
- Thickness: don’t guess—verify if possible
- Edge condition: any chips, bite, or hardware constraints
- Photos: wide + close-ups of framing and hardware
Why spec matters
Door and storefront glazing often uses safety glass. The right type (and how it fails) matters for security and liability. If you’re comparing options, read tempered vs laminated glass.
When to stop and call a pro
- The panel is above reach or requires ladders/lifts
- The opening is active retail with public exposure
- You’re unsure about thickness/spec or hardware interaction
